Best fish for a beginner?

Amen to that. I wish I hadn't gotten a female, but now I don't have the heart to get rid of her, so I have to find homes for groups of fry every month.

I wish I had known about girls having fry monthly because I have 2 extremly pregnant girls in my tank who look like that are about to explode, and no LFS take peoples guppies around here due to possible disease etc.

So what am I supposed to do with them all?! Noone else I know has a tropical tank.

So if you go guppies, definitly go all male, and yes they are alot prettier.

Once your tank is cycled, another bulletproof fish to start out with is endler's livebearers. Again, get only males or you'll be hip deep in fry, but they are smaller, and in my experience, hardier than guppies. You don't get the huge fan tails, but you get bright colors in dabs all over the fish, with a high metallic shine that catches your eye from across the room. Buying 5 males means they will all try to outshine each other in color displays, so the fish will stay bright, but that's about the limit of agression from Endler's.

Combine that with a 3 pack or so of playfull cories, and you'll have an active little community tank. But cycle first!

zebra danios

i think that zebra danios are easy to care for, but if u don't have a see through glass/plastic tank, they will jump out. so when ur cleaning the tank and you put them into the temp. bowl, if i'ts not see through plastic or glass, put a paper towel over it. just some advice THAT YOU WILL REALLY NEED believe me, both my zebra danios have jumped out of their temp. bowl and they landed on the kitchen floor or kitchen counter and bounced down....they both survived and are happy now.:dance2:
