I have an ich infestation! In the past I have used quick cure at a half dose, or even less than that. This method has always caused my fish's death, starting with the clown loaches then the cardinal tetras. Now that I have discus, tetras, clown loaches, I really don't want to use quick cure. Could anybody please give me some advice on the best treatment for my sensitive fish?

Hmmmm well usually normal ich meds work for me.
Maybe its the kind you have?

I have some clown loaches and I put half doses when my tank had ich. But my fish end up fine.

So i dunno. Just try different ich meds. I dunno what else to say.

Hmmm oh well. It worked for me. My loaches were fine after using ich meds...
You atleast knew to use a 1/2 dosage, good work. Loaches are very sensitive fish, they don't have true scales and meds can and will stress them out and kill them. If you are just treating for ich why use meds when you can just use salt and warm temps?? This will cause less stress and still solve the problem, which in the end is the best for you sensitive fish!!
Always be very careful what meds you use with clown loaches!!! :thud:

I have heard that Korgon's Rid ich+ is only half as strong as other medications and therefore safe for most fish. I would still be cautious using the product, but it might be your best bet.

I gotta agree with Jodi and naps. Salt is hands-down the safest method. Heat, by itself will also kill ich, but more than anything I think it speeds up the ich life cycle so shortens the treatment time. I used salt (up to 5 ppm) for dojo loaches, and raised temp to 82 degrees (they're coldwater fish) for two weeks and they were fine.

I've used Kordon's RidIch before, and it killed several of my fish, even some with scales. Its active ingredient is malachite green, which is a commercial-grade dye, and also a carcinogen I believe. So it can't be good for your fish or you.

Although I have never tried it on my clowns I was under the impression that they do not tolerate salt in their water. I was told by respected clown loach keepers to use coppersafe in gradual doses when my clowns had ich and it worked great. Although now I am wondering if Ich Gaurd II is not the best solution.
