Pictures would really help so we can see what kind of damage we are looking at.

Also, QT him and treat him with antibiotics to prevent infection. Call around and see if any universities can take a look at him. Some of them may be able to help. Call any public aquariums nearby (if there are any) and see if there is anyone who can look at him. If he's 6 years old then he's pretty big and someone might just be interested.

Sorry I can't be of much more help. Pictures, please?

EDIT: also see if there are any exotic vets in your area. Some deal with more than just avians and reptiles.

thanks for the hope

ya no pics unfortunately, but, he is separated with salts, fin/skin meds and antibiotics, he is swimming normally, and it did't get to the intestines (i hope) just the bottom layer of skin on bottom, they say fins will grow back, no exotics take fish around here! time will tell i guess, i assumed that he would be dead by now, he is a strong fish that has survived lots of turbulence and conditions where all others have died. so i hope he will survive this too. thanks for all the responces.

Please help, my 6 yr old id shark, got torn apart by aggressive fish that my fiancee put in there, fish are out but half the fins are gone, and the stomache is cut open with a layer of skin hanging down. Will he survive. He is my pet and i love him to death. i AM extremelly upset. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. PS i know to check status of other fish, i have been doing this for ten yrs, it is my fiancee who's the idiot.

Definately euthanize the ID shark (poor soul), then get the largest aquarium you can afford to put a school of piranas in. Lastly (and this is a critical step, so don't forget this one), throw your fiance into the tank.....JK :dive2:

no ****, i can't bear to euthanise, what if he makes it!!!!!!!! it has been almost a week, he got out of isolation, and it does look better, am i cruel for continuing on. ya i guess, 275 or whatever gallon wouln't be big enough for him (fiancee that is), out of all the the live coral, tank, and others, don't think we could afford a bigger one. Our aquarium is built in to half of the wall, custom built. I guess they don't sell anything for pain, i'm about to throw a morphine in there lol, joking., but if there is something to keep him comfortable i would like to know about it. SOOOOOOOOOO SAD BEYOND BELIEF, I have shed far too many tears over this. :help:

the guy at the pet store said it was a black shark, but i can't find any info on it?

if its black with an orange/red tail, its a red-tailed shark.

They can be quite aggressive.

Bala sharks can get to 12 " in captivity. I've read where they can live 10+ years (in ideal tank environments)

Not as familiar with ID sharks.
