you could build a very nice one with twist compacts, and case it in wood and it ontop of a glass hood ( 15 $ ) and you can get way more thatn 2.5 watts in it

tops you will spend is $30
Check out walmart or any other lfs and get an incandescent light hood.. replace the bulbs with 2 14w screw in compact fluorescents. For a lunar light you can do a diy and attach a cold cathode

well i have the screw in fluorescent the bulbs are coralife 50/50 bulbs 10 watt. I am just not sure if these will help with plant growth or not. thanks

I got this off ebay....

screwed in 2 60 watt bulbs and my tank is nice and bright. I put it over a glass top which costs 10 bucks. totally cost of this outfit...... 2.00 for the strip plus 8.50 shipping....http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=120169275287&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=002

4.99 for the buibs..
10.00 for the glass top.....25.00 total. ( I like the gladd top better then that small opening on the 10 gallon hoods. more then 2 watts per gallon and very inexpensive.
