Best lighting for 6' tank if cannot hang them from ceiling?

What's the best way to provide good quality lighting for a large tank, if I am not able to attach the lighting fixtures to the ceiling above it?

Buy 2, 3' foot fixtures.

I have never had such a large tank before. Is there usually some kind of prop in the middle, designed for supporting the inside ends of lighting units?

I don't want them just sitting there on top of the glass covers...
