i have read several posts and thread on feeding an oscar live food and i was wondering what the best (and easiest to breed) live food would be for a maturing oscar. (mine is about 5 in. total). i have two 10 gal that are full of fish, but i plan to get a bigger tank for the oscar as soon as my tax refund check comes in the mail. ideas for breeding in a 10 gal? (i also store crickets i buy from my LFS at 10 cents a pop so i am not against storing a low maint. food like crickets)

Convicts or most live bearers will be fine.

Though there is no need to use live foods at all with the high quality prepared foods out there.

In the wild oscars live along river and stream banks and their main diet is insects that have fallen into the water. If you want to feed something that they really love, go to the pet store and buy them some crickets. Your oscar will thank you!

i feed crickets occasionally, and earthworms a couple times a week. mine actually dances when he sees a worm. thankfully i have moved the tank and he can't see the kitchen anymore - he would start wiggling whenever i opened the fridge door. whatever you choose to raise, avoid buying 'feeder fish' - guppies or goldfish. both usually carry a lot of disease and goldfish are plain old bad as feeders.

if you breed your own guppies or endler's I would feed those, but it is unnecessary for their health and a time better spent on other things.
