I use the DIY method with a simple airstone myself.
I hope to convert my existing filtration setup to a canister soon, but even with that I'll keep my airstone or try out a glass diffuser. Putting a reactor behind a canister just doesn't make sense IMHO. Adding extra restriction in the line is just going to lower the filtration capacity due to the reduced flow thru the filter- and now you've got another chunk of equipment taking space in your cabinet with more potential for leaks. I doubt a reactor could disperse CO2 any better than some of the other devices mentioned in the thread either. About the only benefit of the canister/reactor is the lack of anything 'extra' in your tank.
