I've finally had it with my Vortex D-1 diatom. It works great when it works...but I've had a constant string of problems and accidents recently. My friend has a Whisper Diatomagic. It's good for a house with small children because the kids can't get to it because it sits inside the tank. (My one-year-old managed to get around the blockade I had around my D-1 and yank off one of the hoses....my three-year-old learned some new vocabulary words from mommy and daddy as water spewed all over the living room:-).

Anyway, the Diatomagic isn't made anymore...I have to believe there are a few left on the planet. I've checked ebay...there was one on there a few weeks ago and I missed it. Any other ideas of places online to look - aquarium classifieds....etc.?

I'm also considering the System 1 - which I can find new...but the fact that it has a glass jar that hangs outside the tank might be another accident waiting to happen.

Any leads are appreciated!

I posted a want ad on craigslist a month ago and will be picking up the following for free tomorrow:

55 gal, 30-40 gal, two 10 gallons with stand, and all associated hoods, heaters, filters, lights, decorations, etc.

I'm excited to say the least!

Craig's List definately has some cool stuff and great deals!

I'm excited for you! I'll definitely try craigslist

Thanks, it took some patience and a lot of waiting, but someone finally answered my ad.

I have a theory that the vast majority of good aquariums are sitting unused in basements and garages and that they will most likely never be used again. The trick is to figure out how to locate them and convince their owners to part with them for next to nothing. The guy that is giving them to me is just happy to get them out of his garage and know that they will be put to good use.

Ask your friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. One of my wife's co-workers gave us a complete 29 gal setup.

YuccaPatrol: How many tanks do you have/will you have going??

I have two tanks going, but I think I'm at my limit...though I would really like to try a saltwater tank...especially if I could get one for free!!

Used tanks.

There are many different places where you can find discounted aquarium tanks, the most obvious being at your local pet store or speciality aquarium store. Your local pet store should have plenty of discounted aquarium tanks to choose from. They will range greatly in their price depending on what size of fish tank you have in mind. A larger fish tank will obviously cost more, whereas a smaller tank will obviously cost you more money. No matter what your budget, you are sure to be able to find discounted aquarium tanks to suit your needs.

Your local pet store will have many different discounted aquariums tanks to choose from. Before you actually purchase a fish tank, make sure you know what you want to keep in it and where you want to put it, so that you are certain what size tank you need. Different fish require different size tanks and buying a tank that is too small could see you having to buy a new tank in just a few short months.fish care and aquarium tank information
