Hello guys i've been a lurker for quite a while but I finally joined! I have a 5 gallon aquarium and I've wanted to use a nice substrate, preferably black and some sort of sand. I just wanted to hear your opinions on the best options, Thanks!
I would suspect many answers here, unless someone went and made a tank using each plant substrate lol. As far as something to fit what you want, cheap-ish, and great reviews all around- i would vote eco-complete... But personally I use http://www.aquariumplants.com/Freshwater_Aquarium_Plant_Substrate_p/ss.htm... Had no problems with it yet
The best??? Hands down if you check with all the major big name growers is ADA Aqua Soil Amazonia. Its one of the few that are actually nutrient packed. Not just a substrate. I use it in a couple tanks and it does make a big difference Vs stuff like Eco complete, or Flourite as neither of them are nutrient packed. They can absorb nutrients and release them but are fairly inert from the start. Sand has ZERO nutrients and is fully inert. Of course Aquasoil isnt cheap.
