I recently switched over to sand and am going plant shopping tomorrow. I have straight sand, no flouride or anything. What plants would do well? Or, rather, what plants should i avoid?

what are your tanks paramaters (size, temp, fish in it, lighting, brand of sand, ect.)

55 gal, play san, 1.5-2 inches deep, double flourescent lights (came w/ tank).

No fish yet, but I plan for it to be communal with tetras, corries, mollies, guppies, those type of fish.

you should be able to get any low light plant, anubias are my favorites. You could get some java moss (grows like a weed, so start small) and java fern which can attach themselves to decorations. (driftwood, rocks, ect.) Amazon swords are another good begginer plant.

Stay away from anything red, and anything in those plant tubes at PetCo and PetSmart. (most aren't fully aquatic plants)

i've had awesome growth from vals in play sand. they sent runners all over the place to the point where the betta in there couldn't even use the bottom third of the tank, lol. and vals don't need a lot of light either, i've grown them using less than 1 watt per gallon.

vallisneria, i believe. there are a few different varieties under that name. my favourite are tiger vals and giant vals.
