best rocks?

okay, what is honeycomb rock? I would like to make a couple of cave, or tunnels out of the rock, and still have it stable. will that work

Yes, but if you are useing base rock to make a cave I use both super glue and plastic ties to at least make sure your base is very stable. Also, always make sure that it is very stable. You should also make sure that the rock is resting on glass not on your substrate. If you are setting up a reef the coraline and other algaes, critters etc. will cover up any unsightly straps etc. You should also get a little of the best rock you can afford to go with the base rock and over the months and years you'll never be able to tell what was what.

I hope to get some good live rock, and then cheaper dead rock. I also hope to add sand aroung the formations. I know that sand under the formations is a very big no no. What about wood, in a saltwater? I have driftwood from the beach, but I don't know if it is okay to put in. I also once it gets going am hoping to add corals, soft and hard, and then some anemonoes.

For porus rock I like the Pukani. In my reef I have a combination of mostly Pukani and Figi with one piece of Tonga Branch (was actually like three pieces fuzed together that forms a pedastal). I think the tough part is you get your live rock and it might have all sorts of great stuff on it...then you have to clean it and it looks (external lifeform) different. You keep the really good stuff on the rock, but you still clean quite a bit. I used a new toothbrush and it worked well.
