How did you come up with this? 6 inches is the absolute maximum though it is not very common to see one at that size. Besides these loaches need plenty of swimming space. A 20g cannot support a small group and in the loaches' case, keeping 3 as the absolute minimum is best recommended rather than lesser than that. Using fish as a solution to snail and algae problems is absolutely not the best IMO. You are adding unneccessary or more bioload regardless of the tank size unless you intended to really keep them.
