Best way to Euthenize a sick fish.

lol. take it out,put it on a cutting board, think of someone you dont like, and taking wooden mallet beat the living tar out of it.

Well cruel maybe , but crueler to leave something in pain, the Disposal is fast, turn it on insert fish, done . Used this method manys times, just run some ice, an dish soap through it after the DEED.

the best and easiest way is to hit it on the head with a blunt object, a hammer would be best.
its instant costs nothing but make sure you have some practice shots first.
i was actually advised this by a marine biologist friend.

rubbing alcohol

I have a very sick rainbowfish, "Charlie". I've been trying to treat him for months. Salt, Metlafix and Antiobiotics didn't help, he's only gotten worse. He's so bad that the top of his lip has fallen off. No other fish has been effected. It's time to put him out of his misery. (and yes, he's in a hostpital tank)

How should I euthenize him?

I was going to put him in a cup of tank water in the freezer, but my friend says that it's cruel. He says to think of it from the perspective of this fish: What's this? It's dark, cold, I can't breath!. He drops his sick fish in the garbage disposal. It sounds cruel, but he says that it's instant, and much more humane than the freezer.

Help is appreciated! Charlie needs your help!

I learned this while living aboard boats in the Bahamas:
Spray (liberally) rubbing alchol (isopropyl, 70% or higher - cheap & easily obtainable) in/on to the gills of the fish... it's INSTANT death, without any "mess".

Sorry you need this advice...it's sad to lose a fish.
Good luck.

Im all about the hammer, I cant really think of any other way to do it that is completely INSTANT, I dont think cuttin the head off with a knife will do it instantly, as the brain takes a few to die without good blood flow. just my opinion.

1. scoop some of the tank water into a measure cup or something (big enough for the fish). If its in a clear cup, put something around it dark so its less stressed.

2.find something small like a baby food jar or pill bottle, put some tank water in it, leave some room at the top.

3.add a drop of clove oil
4.shake it hard untill its a milky white

5.pour about 1/4 of it in the cup wit the fish, the fish will start falling asleep. let it be for about 10 minutes, it might look dead, but if you look at its gills they will still be moving. If the fish is still awake/swimming after 10 minutes, reshake the stuff and add more.

6. once its asleep add 20-25% of vodka. leave the fish alone for 20 minutes, after 20 minutes if the fish gills are not moving for a minute straight hes gone.

I put them in a small bucket and then shoot them with a bee-bee Gun. It's as easy as shooting fish in a barrell. hahahaha:headbang2:

SERIOUSLY: RUBBING ALCOHOL !!!
(Isopropyl 70% or higher)
Drench the gills and it's OVER....INSTANTLY!!

...NO blood, No fuss, NO maceration of fish in your kitchen sink, NO bludgeoning of the poor thing to death...JUST ONE step; over in a split second. Clean, fast & humane.

Trust me on this one: it "does-in" a 100 lb tuna in less than 5 seconds...it will be just as efficient on your wee man.

Again, sorry you have to do this.

PS: "Booze" (vodka, tequilla, rum etc..) won't cut it....you MUST use the 70% (better if it's 90%) isopropyl rubbing alcohol.

I've used clove oil twice. I did quite a bit of research first. Of the non-violent method, it seemed the most humane. I leave them in the emulsified oil/water mixture until they've stopped breathing, then I put them in the freezer to make sure it's done. Some methods suggest anesthetizing them first with clove oil and then adding vodka to finish the job.

 I haven't heard of Liquid Nitrogen....wow....

sorry for your lose dude....hope you come to a quick resolution.... :tombstone:
