beta in a 10g

Bumble bee cat is only about 2'' at most and will not get to be more than 2.5(pushing it) He is also very shy and leaves my neons alone, so i imagine he will not be a threat. I am trying to decide-

should i go with 1 male betta or 3 male guppies for my setup?

Go with the Betta
i had one in my community tank it was a 55 gal
and he did allright untill my
canister filter got clogged up and the circulation slowed down in the tank
less circulation meant the water temp would
rise untill it killed him and some of my other
fish ... Id say get the most colorfull one you can ...

would a male Betta be safe to put in a tank specifically for Feeder goldfish? its about a 10 gallon tank.. will the feeders nip at his fins at all? i just want to put one in for fun...let me know guys

I think thats a bad idea. If you want to get a betta i suggest getting him his own tank. Bettas and goldfish have different requirements and goldies are pretty poopy anyways.

I have been doing a lot of research on betta compatibility. I hav emine with mollies, emerald corys, and a loach. All said to be compatible. 1 molly is a bully, but as long as I fee dit, it is ok.

I have heard that tetras are kind of nippy. also you don't want anything that has flowing fins like the betta cause that is what the males go after. no gouramos cause they are too closely related and will go after each other.

The best thing you could do is set aside some time to monitor the tank and see how the fish behave. if it is bad, remove it. You can always put it in a one gallon container (plan on frequent water changes)- as most breeders do, or get a tank divider or make one out of either clear or opaque material. LFS have these prefitted for popular sized tanks. then watch the fish at certain times if it works out- around feeding and stuff.

I think your tank load is ok, but I am sort of a newbie on that. Bettas don't really eat/poo a lot, so they won't totally stress the tank like other fish.

my little blog- one betta hovered in the front of the tank and swam back and forth, got nipped a little in the beginning, but with more hiding places and acclimation held his own. I switched him out and put another in to see what he did (and other inconsequntial reason) and he swims the whole tank and the others leave him alone. and he just does his thing. bettas have personalities though as do other fish, so it is really up to the fish.

I would recomed trying it, cause they are so beautiful and will diversify the tank. just read up on what fish are compatible and never rely on just one source and always have a back up plan.

my 200 cents.

Bettas are tropical fish that need heat, while goldies need cooler temps. So they are incompatible. If you want to keep feeders, they'll need to be pretty much on their own. And goldfish get really big so they need a lot of room, much more than a 10gal.

I would say that it would be possible to keep a betta in your current tank. It will depend upon the individual betta and you other tank inhabitants though. As mentioned before tetra can become nippy and I believe that most any neon could outswim a betta. Bumblebee cats can be problematic for smaller slow moving fish, but a betta should be too large to be bothered. That takes us back to the betta. If the betta is of decent disposition all should be ok.

I'm actually thinking of setting up a 10g low tech planted tank within the next couple of months with the inhabitants being 3 corys (probably panda), 3 ottos, and a male betta.
