I am interested in adding a betta to my 55 gallon community aquarium. Right now i have three blood parrots,5 cories,5 head tail lights and will be adding some more tetras soon. My question is are bettas peacful or Will they harm my other fish? What is more peacful male or female?

I have a betta in 20 gal. with 3 swordtails,4 platiesand 2 corys. they are very peaceful together. I should see no problem with what you have in your tank.As far as wich sex is more peaceful,Idon't know.

I seriously would rethink a betta in with blood parrots... My intuition says that's going to end up in a shredded betta.

I dont think that my blood parrotts would harm a betta. I fogot to mention in my first post that there are also 6 guppies in the tank with the BP's. The guppies are 2 inch max and some are less than an inch. Right now the Blood Parrots are 5 inches and are capable of eating a guppy, but thankfully they dont.

I too am a newbie to fishkeeping but I think it is just an experiment with your own Betta. My betta gets along with all his tankmates. They include neon tetras, white clouds, danios and iradescent sharks. But I have read where other people have problems with their bettas and other tankmates. I guess it is trial and error depending mainly on the bettas personality. If you want to see how it goes with your other fish, observe closly and if there are any problems make sure you have another tank for your betta or that you can return him.

i would suggest a female betta because they are more peaceful then males but if you do i would suggest getting maybe 2 just because females dont fight and when they do it is playful.

I wouldnt go for it with the BP's- you never know what could happen as bettas have a very different disposition than guppies- the betta could end up being the victim of his own personality, unless you go for a female which is less likely to 'buck up' to the brightly colored, slightly 'finny' parrots. If you have a few good hiding places that might be workable. Good luck!!

i would say i have to agree without the males in that tank!
