I just had a thought. well here it goes
When you go to the lfs and see a beta in a tiny little cup you pity it and want to bring it home. Betas wont get along with you other fish so you go and buy a tank for the poor little fellow. You go out and get some food for and other items.
The manger for the store see's you spending money on a little fish that they dont need to put in a tank or filter its water and i dont think they are making sure that it has eaten enough.
I know that it would be hard but i think people should only by betas from proper breeders. The manger of the store stops making money from the betas and the conclution comes to two things
1: He desides that he/she is no longer making money so they should stop buying them cause there a waste of money.
2: They see people stop buying them so they give each one of them a nice tank to them selves. (<<< that one is not likly)

Thanks for taking all the time to read this

The Betta is a Labyrinth fish, able to breathe through gills or directly from the atmosphere. It evolved so that it could spend time between monsoons in diminishing puddles left by retreating river floods, generally by itself, all dry season long, until the next monsoon flood season. The conditions in the cup are not stressful to the fish. Yes, mine lives in a tank a bit larger than a cup, and yes, it has a filter and plants, etc., and his water is R/O water with nice mineral supplements, but that is because I enjoy the hobby and wish to produce a habitat that is more attractive than a hole in the mud, and want to have clear water so I can see my fish, and have an R/O unit for my other, more delicate marine fish and corals. And yes, I had the tank, etc., way before the Betta. The $2.00 I bought him for did not make the shop owner rich, but it keeps me entertained for a lot longer than $2.00 can buy doing anything else!

Now...how about all those rabbits they sell that end up in a small cage forgotten by the little kids that receive them tor Easter? There's something to complain about..! :D
