I've had my beta for about 3 days now and he wont eat. He wont eat pieces of shrimp pellet, floating fish food, and wont eat Wardley Betta pellets either. Only thing he'll eat is when i find small bugs in the house i put it in the tank and he looks at it for a long time and then eats them. His betta food he spits back out. Should I just starve him a couple of days and try again?

My betta hate one of those brand that makes floating pellet. I've been feeding it flakes and tubifex worms along with my other fish.
I also won't feed it floating pellets since it couldn't even grab it right away at first. After a couple of tries, other fish would notice and steal its food ACK!

uh its in a really small plastic tank by himself. I dunno how much water it can hold. my estimate would be about 1 litre. He ate the bug though i dunno maybe hes just picky

When I tried to feed my betta some fish flakes, it refused it. It also refused pellets. It only eats brine shrimp, blood worms, and other frozen foods. I would try brine shrimp, as it seems to be very good-tasting to fish, and blood worms as well since almost all fish take blood worms eagerly, and they are very healthy. In the wild, bettas eat small bugs, which contain an special oil for growth. Most foods contain this oil, but I guess your betta is going to his natural instinct when choosing food.

He he... its funny how Bettas can be picky about what they eat! We have to go out of our way to buy different kind of food to find out what they would eat! :thud:
