Betta 5Gal. Filtration Necessary?

Thanks for the responses guys. The crack was pretty severe, so now I'm thinking I would be much safer just to buy another.

For now this is all just planning though, I might get onto this next year, after my 30g is up and running. Thanks for the advice

dont get a filter for bettas they like the water stagnent, to much movment could cause your fish stress.

Don't tell anyone but I have two female bettas in separate tanks (they fought in the 55 gal tank) without filters. They love their plants and I keep the tanks very clean.

you need 3 or more females to keep them togeather, they create a pecking order and with only 2 one becomes dominant and the other dies.

that's not true. many bettas love swimming in a current. as long as they have non-currenty spots to retreat to, they are fine with currents.

that's not true either. many folks have kept 2 female bettas together and nothing like that happens. the main thing with female bettas is that you need room for them to establish their own territories. 5Gs per female betta is the general rule on that.

Female bettas being extremely aggressive or not depends alot on how they're raised. If they are jarred like males, you'll find that they will get as (or even more) aggressive than males. Not a big deal anymore as breeders generally raise their females in community grow-out tanks nowadays. But they will still establish a pecking order over available territory. 5G per fish is an OK rule, but it's really more about having enough "territory spots" (caves, plant bunches, etc.) so that each fish can claim it's own.

IME this is completely untrue. I have 2 female bettas and a d.Gourami and I've found the females sleeping on top of each other. But you know bettas, it's all individual.
