Betta attacking neon tetras

Neons

I've kept neons with Bettas for years, all in 10g planted tanks. never had a problem. I got some female bettas today which are in a 10g with some neons, but I'm not sure that'll work out. The ladies seem a bit quicker than males, and have taken a few snaps at the neons.

i guess we'll see

It's a 10 gallon, but he says it's overstocked. Which, as I'm sure you know, could add to the aggression factor.

guys i also need a lot of help on this
i have had a male halfmoon for a while now and he has been by himself but recently i got 2 neon tetras (they're small, a little less than 1 inch) and my betta is attacking them. i do have a small tank, which might be the reason and i only have 2 neon tetras so i should probably get more. however my betta isnt hungry (i think, they eat everything) so i need some help sorting this out

How large is the tank that your Betta currently lives in?

You may want to consider returning the neon tetras to the store if your Betta is picking on them. Do you have a pic you can post of your Betta tank and how it is decorated?
 
Yes, welcome to AC autumn! Since this thread is so old you might want to start your own. At the top right of each forum is a " start a new topic" bar (blue I think). You'll get more help that way.

Betta & neons can be iffy tankmates at the best times. We (in the olden days) used to buy 6+ very small neons to keep with each of our 2 bettas. While the tetras were bite size they were often snacks. But if they grew beyond that size the tables might be turned & the neons nibbled the betta's long fins. Not all bettas as good hunters as some others are.

A slightly better choice would be cardinal tetras, very similar to neons but they prefer the higher temps bettas like. They also grow a tiny bit larger. & in my memory they also weren't quite as nippy (but that may be wrong!) Depending on your tank's size, as dudley asked, there may be other options.

I can get a picture, it is a small tank (around 3-5 gallons, I am currently planning on getting a 10 gallon it might help) but the neon tetras actually were a present i got for the holidays from a relative who knew i had a fish. so i would a)not know what store to return them to and b) feel really bad about it :/
here is a pic, maybe you can give me feedback. just so you know i have a spare tank ready in case i needa separate my betta and the tetras
it is also a relatively old tank and it is acrylic maybe glass is less reflective so my betta will also stop flaring at his reflection?

currently trying to stop my neons from getting attacked
my betta's fins are frayed but it is from a fin rot bacterial infection that has been cured, he is still currently recovering. as far as i know (i can be wrong, i am not next to my tank 24/7) my neons havent been nipping my betta's fins.
also my neons are around 1 inch so i dont see why my betta feels threatened by them. first time having tank mates and just being territorial i guess...

my neons are around 1 inch, so idk why my betta is being so agressive. just being territorial ig, that's a lot of male halfmoons.

i have had a friend who had a pretty male veil tail and added some cardinals, and in a few days its fins were all shredded. so from my friend's personal experiences im not sure how cardinal tetras will do with my halfmoon. also the pic is terrible lighting im sorry :/
