so today I did the usual WC on my 10gal dicided male betta tank. FIlled up the tank popped in some food and headed to class. Much to my dismay the tank was a completely different story when I returned.... :jaw-dropping:
When I got back all 3 males were in the middle section, fantastic.
The fight was already over when I got back, 2 bettas were huddled in opposite corners while the 3rd prowled.
all the Bettas are missing huge amounts of fin. I was in class from 5:30-7:00 so they were going at it for a while.
They are all ragged and lethargic.

I think I filled the tank up too high and they were able to jump over the barriers. thats the only way i can think they got in there. The sides are siliconed to the tank and in the same position as when I left. I filled it up to the hight I normally do, I guess this time they weren't having it.

well heres the winner......

yes i know the pictures suck, not my biggest concern right now

Al
who was clearly the winner is the only one who is actively swimming, the other two are laying on the bottom of their containers. All 3 are gaspy.

I meant to put this in the anabantoids section, if a mod can please move it i'd appreciate it

adding salt is not the answer. maybe if they had ich, then yes, but with fin injuries and other small wounds from fighting you want to ensure the water is pristine and that they are being fed small amounts throughout the day so that they can get their energy levels back up. keep their tanks away from each other so that they aren't inclined to flare and 'get their hackles up'. keep the lights dim, and keep the area around the tanks calm and quiet.

Bally, grab a couple packages of "Betta Revive" next time you are at the lfs. it's a great all around med for bettas and works well to help mend fins (i've had wonderful success with this product with fin rot!). but don't use it unless there is no fin re-growth happening with pristine water, since unnecessary medicating is, well, unnecessary.

I've moved them out of the divided tank. Each betta is in a breeder net in the big tank.
that way they are closer to the surface, and much more separated.

Yep... this ^^^

They should heal up with time as long as the damage isn't too extensive. Good luck with them.

They are going to stay in the breeder nets till thursday then I'm dragging Daniel to the petstore and getting each one it's own 2.5 gal

In the future once they're healed I'd get more of the knitting(?) material that you made the dividers out of and silicone a couple sheets together(to make one big sheet) and then cut it do size so that you can place it above all two dividers in the tank. Hard to explain but you might understand what I'm attempting to describe.

I hope your bettas heal, poor babies.
