I have a female betta that is refusing to eat a lot of the things I throw at her. I got 3 at the same time and they're from the same brood. The other two are also female and eating fine, so I don't know what's wrong. I've tried feeding her peas, freeze-dried bloodworms, and pellets. However, I've noticed she is older and fatter than the others. I think she has an egg sac which is why her tummy is round. Could this be causing her to act differently from the others? Is she pre-occupied with looking for a male betta to fertilize her eggs? Currently I am housing her in just room temperature water but I plan to move her to a warm tank tomorrow to see if that helps. Anyone with such experience?

Female bettas always have eggs... She should be eating well and if anything more agressive if interested in spawning... She does not sound right... Maybe constipated, maybe bloat from something else...The round tummy does not sound good. You need to isolate her from the other fish now... Put her in an emtpy bare tank and monitor her for bowel movements... If she isnt pooping, dont feed for 3 days or until she has a movement. She wont starve to death, but if she is constipated feeding her is the worst thing you can do.
How warm is "room temp"? Low temps can cause digestive issues in cold blooded critters.
What kind of food do you usually feed? What was she raised on?

she is pretty aggressive to the other fish. I don't know what she was raised on exactly but I looked at my cousin's shelf one day (she bred them and gave them to me) and she has the same stuff I do. I will attempt to isolate her in a seperate tank and keep track of what she does.

P.S. is it normal for bettas to throw up a lot later after their meals? I've heard that throwing up is normal in fishes and indicates that there's just too much food. However, I've read that this is during consumption while I'm fooding weird food bits that look like they've been partially digested floating around. Could this be a sign that I'm overfeeding?

How much are you feeding now??? I feed some pretty large portions twice a day and have not had any issues with digestion...However this is a high protein food that I buy specifically for the Bettas without much in the way of filler and other things that can clog up a digestive system...What kind of food are you feeding??? It could be that you need to switch to a higher protein food.

There is no telling why fish do it exactly...Could of been an over eating issue, something they couldnt digest, constipation.... The FD bloodworms can be a real problem though and can cause constipation. Always soak them first and give in a small portion as a "treat"...They are really fatty and not a good choice for a staple.
