Hi guys, I'm very new to the fish world and have been doing some research with very little success so I thought I'd come on here for help.

I have a betta fish and it's absolutely gorgeous. Best of all is that it's so easy to take care of. I'm getting married in late May and thought bettas would be a good gift as thanks to all my younger cousins, nephews and attendants for being a part of the wedding. The youngens are all at an age where some responsibility would be good for them, so bettas seem to be a good option for them and their parents.

Regardless, I need about 20 of the regular veil fin type (yay! after a few hours of research I can now tell the difference btwn species!). I've looked online but shippings seems to be more expensive than the fish themselves! So I thought I'd buy local to save on shipping.

Anyways, does anyone know of any breeders in N. Illinois? Again, I don't need an exotic species or anything, I would prefer they all be a similar color so the kids don't fight though :)

This thread...kind of upsets me. I reliaze you are just trying to be friendly, but the bettas probably wont be cared for properly. I hope you know they are supposed to be in 2+ gallons and they NEED filters - all fish should have filters and little kids often fail to provide the care they need for them. Bettas kept in cups at pet stores will die within a few months because they fail to have the correct care and space to swim around in.

Honestly, unless you provide filtered tanks with the bettas, its not a good idea.

Welcome!!:hi:
I'm not a breeder, but I used to take care of bettas when I was little...
I'm sure the parents would help!

You have got to be ****ing joking Fish are not a trinket or a bonboneire.

Oh - and you also said you have had bettas in the past. What size tanks did you have them in?

Living creature's lives are not meant to be played with.

I saw this train wreck a-coming... used to belong to a betta list a few years back and a girl emailed the exact same question....folks went bananas.

at any rate, the bride-to-be now knows that some folks disapprove of fish as gifts....anybody else know of betta breeders in northern Illinois?
