Hi,
I have been very conservative in feeding my new Betta Buddy, Moby2. Feed him twice day, 2-3 Betta pellets, or a few flakes. 2-3 frozen blood worms a couple of times a week. Recently, he has been scrounging the bottom of his tank for scraps. Should I up the amount I feed him? Is eating stuff off the bottom on the tank OK?

Thank you!

The amounts of food you have been feeding him is fine. My betta does the same. What I think is that some of the food might be falling to the bottom of the tank and he just wants to get to it.

AquaticFrog32,
Thank you for your quick reply. I thought that might be the case.

Do you have any bottom feaders in with your Betta?

Thanks again!
Randy

Big snail of some sort that he can't bother would help, should you be so worried.

Every betta I've ever had has been very adept at exploring every inch of his tank. Scrounging is normal. I had a betta that I kept with a large ramshorn snail, and the betta would devour every baby snail - which meant he actively hunted them.

Not to mention Bettas eat like little pigs......They have huge appetites for tiny fish. He just wants to eat all he can.

What size is Moby2's tank? He maybe bored with no other animals to hunt or interact with. If it's a small tank maybe a few snails or shrimp...Our bettas (back in the day) liked to hunt small neons...until they got beyond bite sized. A live plant or 2 may also give him a place to rest & pick at micro-fauna. While his diet seems good, he may tend to chubbiness without some exercise...kinda like people...
