actually, thats a myth. Bettas do not live in "puddles", yes they live in rice patties, however they are not puddles, they are all more or less connected and has an effective volume of several thousand gallons give or take. I'm with irishspy on this, bettas show very interesting behavior in larger environments, a 10g would be perfect with a few white clouds and some shrimp, snails, and plants. If I add or remove one thing or just re-arrange something in the tank, all the females just HAVE to check it out and explore. Curious critters bettas, and it seems a shame to keep it in a jar.
