I wouldn't call his attitude apathetic. I'd call it irresponsible and label him negligent. He's been told repeatedly to put a lid on the tank, but doesn't bother. Regardless of how he feels about the fish, it's irresponsible not to give your pet a safe place to live.Luke Jaywalker said:

BTW, I also have had some jump out of the water expereriences:
Bad ones:
* 6" bala shark. Found 3 days later almost 30 feet away from the tank.
* 4" koi. Escaped in the narrow space beetwen the hood and the hanging filter. Found the morning under the tank covered with ants. :sad:
* A 2" Green spotted puffer, went down the pipe to the sump, and kept in the surface of the filter floss. This was my mistake for not securing the screen at the overflow pipe.

)* A pearl gourami that jumped right after I took the hood apart for cleaning. Fell inside the bucket filled with treated water. :soda:
* 3 months ago, when I bought a blue gourami and when getting home he was sticking to the bag in a place with no water. No signs of problem yet.
And the best escaper ever: the rope fish. I found mine in the canister 2 times. Then, it was in the sump at the same time as the green spotted puffer, but the ropefish made it to the water. The rope fish can stay up to 5 hours outside the water thanks to its lung-like suimming bladder.
In this kind of event, it's natural that the fishes that can breath atmosferic air will have a better chance of survival. Gouramis can as well as the ropefish. The others were not that lucky. :Angel: :Angel: :Angel:
NOTE TO THOSE WHO KNOW:
I had to keep the green spotted puffer in this community freshwater tank because it was given to me as a "surprise" from a friend who found it so pretty for a gift. Too bad she dind't know the difference beetween a brackish and a freshwater fish. Also, too bad the fish store keeper was negligent enough to sell it to her. Hate those guys that only care for money.

You are keeping it alive, but, since you are soing it, give it a little love. Don't be bad to the fish. Just cover his tank with a lid to prevent it from falling, and try to find someone who may care for it.
Maybe there is somene in this comunity that lives near you and can take care of it.
Try posting a forum thread giving it for adoption.
