My poor Betta died that I had for 8 months. He got constipated and then developed dropsy. So I ventured for a new Betta.

I have had this Betta for about four weeks, maybe a little less. He was handsome and healthy. But it seems that his tail fin is disapearing! He still flares and acts pretty healthy for the most part. I'm afriad he has fin rot. What should I do?

He lives with 2 Rasporas, 3 White Clouds, a Clown Pleco and some snails. The PH is high, the water is on the hard side, and the temperature stays around 79. I've had my other fish for awhile and they are all doing fine.

Actually both. At first it looked like someone was eating his tail. It was stringy and frayed. (None of the fish are bothering him) The back tail looks shrunk like it could disappear and the bottom fin still looks stringy and frayed.

that is what one of mine is doing! I'm scared too! I've had him for over a year now and he seems really healthy except for his fins!

Melafix or bettafix ... same stuff basically ... work great on fin rot and war wounds.

If it was me, I'd separate the betta out and treat him.

I wouldnt' medicate with anything right off....just keep the water good and clean and he should heal up nicely.

It isn't always finrot when their fins tatter like that. Sometimes they just blow thier fins from swimming around alot, which they sometimes do after you take them out of the tiny cup and introduce them into a larger home. Also, plastic plants can be hazardous to thier fins. So, I would hold off on the meds for now.....keep the water clean and watch to see how it goes..

remove hime from the community tank and put hime by hisself. I guarantee in a few weeks time you wil see new growth. I hust had to remove my betta for that very reason. I put 2 new more mollies in on Saturday and they did this to my betta.
