betta fin rip question

My betta had a few "holes" (nearly holes) on its tail fin. I keep it in a 5 gallon tank, temperature at 78 deg. constant. When I noticed the holes i began changing the water everyday and added aquarium salt to the conditioned water. the holes disappeared and i seemed to have a healthy betta. But the other day i noticed it had a green-brown patch on its tail fin (the previous night it seemed to perfectly fine). Later that evening i was watching my betta and saw it getting trapped among the leaves of one of my silk plants; i rescued it and it went about its business; i also removed that particular silk plant. The next day I noticed a rip in its tail fin where the green-brown patch used to be. The patch is now not visible. My fish is active, has a good appetite and gets excited when i hang around the tank. Any sugeestions or advice as to what the green-brown patch could be? and is there any cause for worry?

Don't know about the brown patch but bettas are prone to ripping their fin. Having lots of freshwater and a good diet will help him heal faster. If there are really bad rips you can often buy medicines (I can't rememeber the names) that contain tea tree oil. These seem to help the healing as well as keep any wounds from getting infected.

With bettas real plants are always best as they tend to minimize the damage. Think about getting some java fern, it is very easy to grow.

melafix is the medication, but you may not need it if you just give him clean water, add dechlorinator that includes a stresscoat, just a 4 or 5 drops in your 5 gallons, and make sure there are no pointy parts on the fake plants,
I'd wait a few days and see.

Oh ya, make sure there is no place he can get 'stuck' again.

Try a better quality food as well he could just not be getting enough of certain vitamins. What food are you using now?
