I have a little veiltail in a 5gal all by himself, and he's active pretty much continually - always swimming around and poking around the tank. I have a HOB filter, and it apparently causes a reflection on the glass, because every time he passes it he flares and puffs up at the glass for a few seconds..then forgets about it, swims off, and repeats two to ten minutes later. All day.

He's eating, sleeping, generally being happy and healthy...should I do anything about this? Will it wear him out, or is he fine?

he's fine

this is funny because yesterday i was watching my betta flaring at I don't know what! he was just looking out the front of the tank and flaring at..... something? There was no reflection of any kind that I could see. Weird little fishy.

Mine flares at his food sometimes when I'm feeding him frozen bloodworms.

Mine also flares up randomly at the glass even if there is no reflection. I think they just wanna strut there stuff or better yet work those muscles.

Bettas that are on a shelf in bowls next to each other stop flaring after a few days. Temporary threshold shift.
