Sorry to disagree with what everyone has been saying about keeping female Bettas in a 10 gal tank.
I have kept Bettas for years and my sorority tanks are all 10 gal. I keep from 5 -7 females in each tank. The tanks have a number of hiding places and lots of plants. There is some nipping at first but once a pecking order is worked out ,I haven't had problems.
I find the key with female Bettas is to keep an odd number together. Even numbers just don't work. As with any fish occasionally you will get a bully which you will have to remove.
I use a lot of what I call Betta houses. PVC pipe connectors. They are about 2 1/2" long and 1 1/2" round. All my Bettas love them to hide in. You get them at the Hardware store for about $0.50
Well that is my two sense worth.
