So there I was at my local walmart last weekend walking thru the aquarium section when i come to the bettas. There was a vase and inside the vase the water was so murky you really couldnt see into it. Then I saw them...not 1, not 2, but 3 yes 3 male bettas were in this vase. Poor things! 2 of them were nose to nose obviously very tired and horribly beaten up. And to make matters worse, someone had dumped a whole thing of flake food in there so the water was horrible!!. I was shocked! We found an employee and they separated the bettas into separate containers. I'm sure the red one was on his way to fishy heaven by the way he looked. I almost cried. I wish I could get my hands on the stupid punks that did that. I was pretty upset with walmart for not noticing earlier too. I mean that didnt happen in 10 mins ya know? I am going to write them a letter, not that it would do any good, but at least I will feel like I did something about it. I know it wasnt walmarts fault, but it wouldnt have been that bad if someone were around to notice it.

When I worked in a mall ps the dumb punks would do this often. They would also dump soda into the bowls. Some people need to get lives.

Bettas are the most abused fish. It's the cool thing to get a betta and put a mirror in front of it you know.

Yeah, or buy the divided tanks. Gosh, that drives me crazy.

the fact that the whole time the bettas are in divided tanks they are totally stressed that there is another betta in what they think is their space and will be in fighting mode.

i recently saw a betta tank that had about 7 5" cubes hooked together to keep em in like on a window ledge talk about abuse!

The divided tanks keep the fish very stressed! Bettas are a solitary fish. They like to be alone. They are also fighting fish, they are protective of their space. nOT GOOD.

I agree with you all heartily however not all divided tanks are bad if they were kept so that the bettas couldn't see each other it would probaly be all right. anyways :OT:

Divided tanks are not bad at all. My bettas loved it! They flared at each other initially, and then pretty much ignored each other. When one died, the other sulked for a long time with noone to flare at. It's not cruel. It's what they do in nature to fend each other off. I think it can be healthy.
