Would a single male betta do well in a 10 gallon?

I am thinking about trying to find a home for the guppies that are in the 10 gallon, and putting a betta in it.

Woud he swim around and stuff? I have always wanted a betta, but I don't want to put anything in a little bowl where it doesn't have room to swim. A 10 wouldn't be too big for him, would it?

Thanks for any advice!

Thanks for the reply!

Could a couple of cory catfish live with him?

Where would you reccomend purchasing a betta? I have a petsmart that definitely would not purchase one from. Their bettas look so sad. I've noticed that some places bettas are in water that has a blue tint to it. What does that mean?

What are characteristics to look for in a healthy betta?

The 10 gallon has a biowheel. I use two airstones, would they create too much current?

I may try to get some pandas. I have some in my 29, maybe the store will get some more in. Maybe 2 or 3 pandas?

Thanks so much!

I have a male betta in a 10g with some ghost shrimp. I have a biowheel (no airstones). He loves that tank. He swims all over the place and has built a huge bubble nest. When I walk up to the tank he starts swimming back and forth in the front of the tank. I think he likes to show off.

you betta will be fine in a 10g .. i have one in a 10g with some feeder guppies and they are doing just fine .. and i have a female in with a dwarf puffer and they get along just fine .. .. they love haveing the room to swim around in .. they are more active .. i had my male in a lil 1 gallon tank and he didnt like it .. just moaped around .. put him in the 10 and he loved it ..

I just brought a new betta friend home, and the advice I was given was to look for one that's alert, pays attention to you and maybe even to bettas in nearby containers. A plus would be one that has a bubble nest built, showing he's content. And of course make sure its fins are in good condition, some of the same things as you'd evaluate for other fish.

The one I selected (or did he choose me?) was flaring at a nearby fish, flared at me when I picked up the container, and was active in the small space. He's not stopped zipping around his new 5.5g home, though he's not as hyper as the first two days :)

Best of luck and please keep us updated!

I'm really excited!

Does anybody think I should remove the airstones, or will they be fine?

Now I just need to figure out what to do with the guppies. (2 adult females and 2 female fry)
