Betta in a Quart Jar?

He would eat about one piece of food every 7-10 days. and the way i knew he wasnt eating was the fact that i would clean the food out of the bottom of his jar every night.

I would Think you would know Betta!! LOL!!
anyways Bettas are actually happier in smaller tanks/jars/Vases because its more like the wild with the small rice puddles and stuff soo there used to it and when you try and move them to a new bigger area they dont enjoy it because they are used to being in a small area. Hope this helps
BETTA POWER!!!
Actually Rice fields are HUGE.. most people just do not realize how big they can be..

Alot of keepers do keep them in small containers like this, but I have found mine best in a 20-29 gallon planted tanks. I love it when the hide in the plants and drift wood.

Maybe you could try the next size up mason jar....and then a little bigger..and so on until you get him comfortable in the size container you want him in. It might help to put a clump of java moss or a small plant of some kind in the jar so he feels like he has something to hide behind. Give that a shot, but I would say, if it doesn't work and he seems happy in his little jar.....keep him there.
Sounds like your very good about keeping him nice and clean, and if that's what he prefers....hey...there are oddballs in every group....lol.....

Well as a matter of fact I have a 1/2 gal mason jar at home and i just happen to be going home this weekend. So I'm going to try to get a bit larger jar for him and then possibly "graduate" him back to his larger tank. I'll let you know what happens.

I like the suggestion of adding some decor to the larger tank. My bettas have always seemed to enjoy hiding in plants or resting on them. I also find that every betta I have had eats differently. The last one would never touch the pellets or flakes, just freeze dried blood worms until he was older and then he would eat anything. The newest guy will only eat betta flakes. He will go days without eating if I try to feed him the pellets.

I hadn't thought of the decoration thing, but thats a great idea!! I would go for real plants or silk, but not plastic. I had plastic plants in mine for months and was always told that as long as the plants would not snap nylons if you rubbed them together (which I did  )that they were ok. But the poor guy always had fins that were just slightly ragged, so I went and got some silk and he looks much better and he seems to like to hang out in them more than the plasic plant too!
I also think the gradual increase in container size is a great idea to try!! Good luck, hope something works out :)
