I have also kept a betta in an all community tank, in fact it seemed the Cory cat picked on the betta more than anything. But overall the betta was a great addition of color to the tank. No problems whatsoever!
i have a 55 gal. tank with just about everything in it including neon tetras and a male betta and he hasn't bothered any of them yet . so you should be ok...
It is a hit or miss sort of thing with a male betta. I use to have a male betta in with lots of smaller fish and he never touched one. But he passed on and the wife wanted to get another but this betta was a different story. Nipped and anything that came in a 6" range.
IT ALL DEPENDS ...
to betta s personality .
i have mine with 1 temporary cory in my 5g and he beat the hell outta him .
he s a serial killer and killed ANY fish i put in his tank , but the one i had before was abit calmer and just beat the colorfull fishes !
tetras may nip may not , beware of black skirt tetra .
don put betta with platies or mollies they will nip and will destroy ur beautiful bettas tail .
don even try betta with angels or gouramies ...
and stay away from any chichlid ..
JIMO bettas will not do well in community tanks ... more crowded around them = more stress they will get = less life time (if they don kill anyfish ! ).
One or the other.
If you have read my betta posts(old), I keep 2 males in a well planted 75. If the plecos eat the plants down, I either have to take out a male, or quick add more plants. Old red passed away this week, so we will be adding another male to the tank again. I also keep a large mirror on each side of the tank, as the bettas then spar with their image, and not the other guy. They keep to their own areas. I do not put 2 of the same color together thou. they must be opposits. Red and blue or such. Blue and green will fight. How they know their own color is beyond me.
My community tank has guppies, platies and neon tetras(bought as 1/2 inchers, now over 1 1/2 inches). And, my guppies and platies have fry survive. Its usually the cories and plecos that eat the fry, the bettas leave them alone. But that might because I've used the bettas for breeding, so they instinctivly ignore fry as food...
