My tank recently lost a number of fish due to a devastating ich plague. Now I am looking for some fish to replace those that I lost. I was at petco the other day and I saw an amazing betta calling a king betta. I was wondering if it could be kept with zebra danios and fish of that size. I had a very carnivorous killie awhile back and I don't want a repeat of that.:shakehead:

Zebra danios have a tendency to nip, especially betta fins... I wouldn't mix the two.

King bettas are just a larger breed. They are still slow moving and will get nipped or all his fins will get eaten. Male bettas are best be themselves no matter what the breed.

not necessarily true. male bettas make great additions to community tanks. one thing you do have to consider though is the personality of the betta. some are just too grumpy to live sociably.

I agree male bettas do fine in community tanks - you just have to choose the correct tank mates.

King bettas do not have big flowing fins. I'd do the danio/king betta mix. I don't think you'll have an issue.

I have to disagree. Male bettas can thrive peacefully among non-nippy fish. I have a male betta with female endlers. They're not flashy, don't nip at his fins, and can swim away when he gets close... There are quite a few fish that will not nip fins (most smaller tetras, rasboras, cories).

The exception is the betta himself - some are just grumpy gus's. :p:

BFM beat me to it! I type too slow on my phone.

I have had good results with using the large Plakats from Petco in community tanks.
With the shorter fins, and larger size they swim just as good as any other fish.
I have kept them with Zebras Danios, and even Spot Gourami. My Petco Betta owned the much larger Gourami. This isn't just a single experience since I have had 6 of these fish in total, and have kept them all with peaceful, and even semi aggressive tropicals. This debate goes on and on. I put several videos of some of my friends tanks, and some of my own on Youtube about a year ago.
If you don't think Bettas are good community fish go and see.

Ok, then mabye I can get a king betta. Can betta's eat the same tropical fish flake that other fish eat? I use Tetramin.
