Betta & neon Q

I just got this 29 gallon fish tank (a stand, heater, and filter 2) 4 christmas and upgrading my female betta tank. im gonna put her w/2 other females and thinking of putting them w/neons. so will neons work w/bettas.

how long has this tank been cycled?Neons aren't good in new tank and best in established tank.

I am not an expert on the cycling issue. But with regards to the compatibility issue, I have a female betta who has never even flared at my neons and the co exist and live peacefully in a 10 gallon tank.

well im cycleing the tank w/the betta but as soon as its over ill add the other fish slowly

the group of females will need to be bigger than four.

every betta is different. some tolerate other fish, some do not.

Depends on the personality of the betta. My prior betta, Rocky, was fine with tankmates. The current Lord of the Betta Palace, Louie, hunted his roomies to extinction. :irked:

As far as Neons go, I think they'd be fine with female bettas, though I might be concerned about them being tempted to nip a male's long fins. I doubt it's much of a risk, however. Neons are pretty peaceable.

I'd go with 4 total female bettas, that's the recommended minimum for a group in order to disperse any territorial behavior among the pecking order.

I have 6 neon tetras and my female beta does not bother them. She only eats the pond snails

Give the tank 6 months to establish before any neons.
