I just got a new betta for my 5 gallon Eclipse hex. He's the only fish in there, and will be the only fish in there. Anyway, he's not eating.....is it normal for Betta's to be picky eaters? I'm feeding him Betta food, but it's the flake variety...maybe he's used to eating the pellets? I don't know, any ideas?

Call the place you bought him and find out what they were feeding him. He'll likely respond to whatever he's use to eating.

Another might just be the fact that he is adjusting to his new sorroundings...
It might take a day or two or even a few weeks before he is eating consistently... it causes a lot of stress to be moved around and handled as much as a fish does when we buy them....

Yes, they can be very picky eaters. My betta hates flake food. Well, actually, no, that's not quite true-- he only likes the red flakes, and he spits all the other ones out. 
Try getting him some pellets, or bloodworms (freeze dried will do, but frozen is better). And don't worry too much if he still refuses to eat for a day or two-- as has been said, he may just be adjusting to his new home, and have other things on his tiny mind than eating.

I have heard that if a betta is fed bloodworms, it wont ever eat anything but those. Could the LFS possibly have given it bloodworms?
That's really funny, my betta will only touch the red flakes and granules too. He'll try to take the other colored granules, but will spit them out right away. I'm not entirely sure why I bought granules since they tend to sink - I should have just went with pellets. He's too messy for anything else and with the pellets you can more easily monitor the food intake in addition to other treats.
