Betta problem

Most likley theres nothing wronge with him... bettas are very very hardy fish. You might want to not change the water as much,or take less out at a time. Technically bettas can go months in a 1 gallon fish bowl without ever cleaning it, although thats not really nice to the fish.

If there is, hes probably loosing some color because he is stressed for some reason. Depending on when you set your tank up, there could be high amonia or nitrites. take it to the fish store and have them test it.

I would do the opposite. I would change the water more not less. NO fish, not even bettas, can go months in any bowl/tank/container without ever cleaning it.

Just take all 2.5 gallons out and replace it. It wont hurt the betta as I do this to hundreds of them weekly with no problems. No need to spend money on a test kit.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE DOING THIS:
What is very important is that the water you change with is the same temperature and that you add something to the water that removes ammonia, chlorine and chloramines. Prime and Amquel work but some removers don't remove ammonia and often the tap water has ammonia in it. I have to double dose because in my city we have 2.5ppm ammonia and these only treat 1ppm.

Have the LFS test your water to make sure your tap water is ok. Other than that just change out all the water weekly if you want.... I change a gallon twice a week on my Betta's 2.5 gallon.
