Betta Problem

My male betta tore off his pelvic/pectoral fins (the fins on the bottom closest to his head). There is a tiny bit left so there is not really an open wound. The area above and around the fins however is very swollen (half the size of a marble I would guess). How should I treat him? Is there one medicine that works better than others for infections? He's not his usual self and that concerns me. Any way I can save him and help him get well I will try. Thanks for the help.

Please help me. I really want Tiber to live. He is such a sweetheart.

Huh. Now, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the area you're describing as being swollen like a marble is his stomach area, no? Is it possible that the fin damage is incidental, and the true problem is something else, like constipation?

How exactly is he behaving to make him seem "not his usual self"? Is he listless? Do you ever fast Tiber? I've heard this helps with digestive troubles, so maybe in the future, try fasting him for one day a week (if you don't already do so).

As for remedies, try feeding him a shelled pea-- this will help the constipation problem, if that's what it is, but won't hurt anything otherwise. For torn fins and whatnot, Melafix is some good stuff, I would recommend it. Those are just a couple of non-invasive, relatively gentle treatments you can try for now, to see if he improves. Good luck!

the VENTRAL fins my or may not grow back, but melafix will help heal the wound. and i agree that it is a good idea to skip feeding for one day a week. it lets their system clear out.
