I was wondering if it's ok for me to put sand in my betta's tank. What I have read says they shouldn't have pebbles, that I should at least have gravel, but they say nothing as to whether I can have sand in there or not. I would like to put sand in their tanks because to me it seems more natural.

Thank you! :)

We have gravel in ours, i cant think or heard of any reason why sand could'nt be used...........:)

Never heard that, could be tho, maybe some beta wizards will know...:)

ive kept and bred some bettas for a few years now and seem to remember reading that sand is fine and actually a good substrate to hold some live plants which bettas love!!

Thanks you! You are reading my mind! I would LOVE to plant some plants too, or maybe grow some bulbs. I know they love java fern, but I can't seem to find it anywhere! Any suggestions as to where I could get some?

Thank you both for the quick responses! The more I am here, the more I love this forum! :D

Haven't heard anything bad about sand/bettas.

I use gravel in both my betta tanks not sure about the sand though but you might want to try petco if there is a store near you they have lots of plants including java fern. Since I am not experienced in planting a tank with real plants I use silk plants in my bettas tank. Good luck with yours!

Thank you everyone for the responses! I have tried both area Petcos and neither one has java fern! My boyfriend and I were talking about it and he is going to order a bunch online. So for now it's silk plants 'till I get my java ferns!

Also, tomorrow I am revamping my betta tanks, and I will be putting sand in both. Thank you all again for the speedy responses! :D
