betta question

How about some Amano shrimp or snails? Or do you really want some type of fish to go with the betta?

It's my son's aquarium and he was hoping for a frog and some fish. I am not willing to sacrifice the betta though......

How about 3 pygmy cories? Adorable, active little fish. They also clean the gravel of the aquarium and are very entertaining to watch. I love them.

Are there any fish that will get along well with a Betta in a 5 gallon tank? What about guppies? I had my Betta in with two danios but he didn't look happy so I put him back in his bowl, but after reading these posts I feel guilty. I was thinking of getting rid of the Danios after I cycle the tank and putting the betta back but I'd like to put a few other fish in as well? Will guppies work?

Thanks,

Mari

Bettas and guppies do not go together. They will fight because the betta will think the guppies are other bettas with their longs fins. And danios are too fast and flighty to share a tank with bettas, which is why your betta wasn't too happy.
Cories are nice fish to go with bettas, and I've heard of lots of success with neon tetras and bettas. Just don't add any type of tetra, because lots of tetras are fin nippers (eg-serpaes). Only pick a fish that doesn't have long fins and isn't a fin nipper.

Thanks

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll look for some pygmy cories. the spotted danio is pretty mellow, i wonder if he would be okay to keep.
