I have a ten gallon aquarium and was thinking about turning it into a betta sorority. I have been told conflicting stories so I'm wondering if it would be safe.

I was going to buy baby bettas and set up the tank with anacharis and four caves ( one for each) and also get fin repair stuff incase they nip at all... I have all the other necessities

My filter is a little strong though so is there any way I can make it to where it won't cause such a current?

A little strong as in it won't suck them in my last male just had a little problem swimming that was all and having no room for more is ok :) I love bettas :)

I bought it used so I do not know the gph but it is made for a ten gallon though its a power plow filter. I just figured I could slow the current somehow though my last betta didn't have much of a problem

you can put a sponge over the intake tube or you can lay filter floss over the output of the filter to slow down the flow.

IMO, 4 female bettas in a 10 gallon is too many. for that size sorority you want to go with a 20 gallon minimum and a long tank is better than a tall.

Well I was also thinking about planting it a little and dividing it so I can have two males or putting a male and some neons ... And maybe two ADF's if I add a few caves

If the fish get along, then 10gal for 4 is fine. I think if you jam pack it with plants(live) then all should be fine. Odd numbers are fine, but only after 4+ settle and then you loose one. Though a large odd number could also work too. Anyway, plants floating, dwarf sag bottom front and thick tall ones on the sides. Betta sororities are just like human ones, if you put together girls that are nasty, rude, thick headed with nicer, calmer etc, you are going to have fights. If you get the combo right, they will be friends and it won't matter how small their dorm is. But even in a large dorm, there is always going to be someone mouthing off at the other(s). Space can't cure that, only time. Then of course, you might end up with a lower Betta suddenly getting the courage to want to be on top, so fights can always happen and you always have to watch them. Some will form bonds and be a team against the rest. I had that happen to my two top girls, them against the world, lol.

Space will certainly not cure a betta with a temperamental personality, but it sure helps ease the pain for the others if you end up with a fussy one.

As I said in your other thread I'm of the opinion that a betta sorority should be in at least a 20 long. Now I know people have had success in smaller tanks but it really depends on how each betta's personality is, which is a wild card really.

The more plants and decor you can stuff in there, the better.

I would have at least two 1 gal (no less than 1 gal) containers ready to go just in case when you introduce them to the tank. Your tank must be cycled for bettas. Their breathing organs will damage easily from ammonia.
