betta sorority help?

Ok now I just have to decide 3 or 5 ... I'm thinking 5 cuz if one doesn't get along with three Everyone has to be split up

i've read that with 3 you will end up with one on the bottom of the totem pole, so to speak, and it will get picked on endlessly by the 2 more dominant females. go with 5, but do it with as large a tank as you can afford, the minimum being 20 gallons.

At least 4. If you have 2 or 3 there will only be one survivor in the group. I've had many and believe me 3 does not work. I was breeding betta since 1972. 4 will be fine in 10 gal. 5 is pushing territory infringements in a 10 gal. Just be sure you have hiding places and plants. Do not forget a hood bettas are jumpers and in a squabble they will jump out of the tank.

I have a hood and I'm thinking 4 or 5 and its not really affording that's the issue its dorm regulations. I can only have a ten gallon and only fish not even ADF's :( which I love

there really is no indicator of how the females will respond to each other until you put them together. you might try putting them in bowls and side by side to see if they behave aggressively towards each other.

starting your sorority with really young bettas will help matters a lot. if they grow up together they may not be as likely to be aggressive with each other as they age.

I agree, get them as young as you can, and introduced them all a the same time so there is not one that already had an established territory. It is still a risk depending on personality. If you can, find a LFS that houses its females together. This may also reduce the fighting because they are already used to each other to some extent.

There are no fish places around here that keep bettas together ... but I will get babies since that will make it easier on them :)
