Has anyone had any experience with the Betta Sphere? What are your thoughts about it... I'm looking for something small for my desk at work and those 2.5 gallon tanks just take up tooo much room.

Thanks...

Seriously, if you don't have room for a 2.5 gallon tank, then please don't keep fish on your desk.

That "betta sphere" barely holds as much water as the buckets my LFS sells the fish in. There's no room to swim at all. The ammonia would accumulate extremely fast. You're looking at a high maintenance item -- water changes every day.

It also doesn't appear to have a lid. Betta fish jump out of tanks with no lids.

Those things are cruel. I'm sorry to say that if you don't have the space for at least a 2.5 gallon tank (which is still small), then you should not have a fish. Contrary to popular belief, bettas do need swimming space. And I agree with Roan that you need a cover (which that does not have). Bettas jump frequently...even if you think you have one that doesn't, someday it will and it will be tragic.

That thing is just absolutely too small. A big no.

I might argue that at the very least, you will need a small goldfish bowl. I have a few bettas in half gallon bowls, and all seems more than perfectly well. Perfect colors, nice activity, and one of them has been in there for almost six months, so I can say it seems they have longevity in there as well.

We do very consistent 100% water changes, and in a way that I have developed which really reduces the fish stress. (It would take a while to describe it, but basically the fish are only out of water for a split second.)

Naturally I would love to have more 2.5 gallon betta havens but when you're always falling in love with a new betta, that gets a bit impractical. If the stores kept them in better conditions I am certain I would not have to buy them up all the time. hehe

BUT the bettasphere....bad bad. Not good at all. So I say go for (at least!!) the half gallon goldfish bowl.

I bought one of those when I bought my Betta (being totally ignorant about fish keeping) and I only used it for about a day before I switched to a gallon bowl. Shortly after that I started educating myself on fish via the internet and wonderful forums like this and now he is in a 10 gallon by himself and he is SO much happier! My husband thinks I'm nuts for saying he's happy now but I can TELL he is. After the research I've been doing on the net about fish keeping and now from seeing it with my own eyes I'm an avid "don't put a betta in a bowl" girl!!!!!

I'm sorry, but I'm confused. How can you claim that a betta that has lived in a bowl for six months as having "longevity" in a bowl? They can live 3+ years. I just can't equate how 6 months in a bowl means they can live 3 years in a bowl. I don't understand the logic?
