Betta tank questions

What subsrate does everyone recommend? Also do you put the plants in right away or after tank is cycled?

I would get either black gravel or black sand depending on your preference. You can put the plants in right away if your planting heavily or doing a fish-in cycle. If your doing moderate planting or a fishless cycle then it'd be best to cycle first.
