my betta in 2.5 gal i got yesterday underside is turning white. especially where its chin is. is this normal, stress related because of the move?

Water is perfect but this is a brand new tank right? So the water will be less perfect today. Since it is such a small tank I would be doing daily water changes of 50% for awhile until at least a small amount of good bacteria build up in the tank. Also if the water at the fish store was different than yours (ph, hardness etc...) then that would cause some stress as well if it was acclimated slowly.

the tank has cycled. put in a neon, when it finished cycling put the neon back in the 10 gal. he is prob stressed out from the move. the betta in my 10 gal is doing great

I have a betta that turns a variety of colors.....he is a greenish on his body, and his color graduated to a bluish to a red on his fins. WHen he was in my 55 gal tank he was mainly blue all the time. Now he's more of his original color. He varies as to intensity of color, and what % of him is what color. Sometimes, the front of his face is white.
I have a red one, and so far I've not seen him change at all.
I would say as long as it's not fuzzy white, which would be fungus, it may just one of his color variations.

MAybe someone cal tell us how and why they change colors.

it might be the lighting. when i turn the tank lights on in the morning my betta is very whitish around the face and under his chin, after a half hour or so his regular red color comes back and when the light go out the color fades again and it get whitish again

If you notice a bulge around where you see it's turning white - that would mean that your betta is stomach-full :) That's normal.

For the first few days in my tank, my betta was very pale and was white in the same place as yours (the journey home took about an hour). I think he was stressed. After a few days he was beautiful.
