I have a crowntail betta in my 29 gallon tank with 4 bleeding hearts, 1 algae eater and 2 zebra nirite snails. With all the other fish in the tank with him, he gets upset with the snails in the tank lol. he'll swim up the them once in a while or if they get too close to him he swims right up to them and flairs his gills at him. I find it kind of funny . He flairs at them and they just keep on going or they tuck into their shell and wait for him to leave. Has anyone else had betta flair at snails or is it just my betta? lol

My bettas always flare at the snails. It looks kinda like they are playing.

^_^ yeah they do that its cute. i had one that if i drew a smiley face on my finger and press it to the glass he would attack it. ..they will eat baby snails as well.

my mr betta has one particular ramshorn that i call his personal trainer, lol. he will single it out in the tank and flare at it and try to knock it off the glass all the time. the other ramshorn snails he could care less about, but this one large female snail is definitely on his hit list, lol.

Mine likes to keep the MTS in line. It's a very demanding job lol

Mine did it and I figured he would get over it, Came back to see a huge scratch on his forehead, took the nerite out. Months later I tried putting a pond snail in to fight algae. Heard a loud pop come from the tank walked over to find the snail hiding in it's shell and the betta with a new scratch on his head coming around for another pass. My betta attacks anything I am surprised he lets the plants move in the current.

So far my crowntail doesn't seem to have hurt the snail or himself yet.
bradlgt21, how did your betta scratch himself on the snail shell?
I think he's gotten more comfortable in the tank, a few days ago I saw him chase my largest bleeding heart. Although he didn't give chase very long and he did not do any damage to the bleeading heart.
