my mom got me a betta vase with a male betta, its a small vase but should i transfer it to a small 5 gal tank or will it do fine in the small vase? sorry for questions but im new at this

Hi Chris and welcome to Aquaria Central!

Yes, good idea to move your beta into the 5 gallon tank. You will need to do weekly water changes of about 20% to keep up the maintenance. I know my beta likes to eat on occassion freezed dried bloom worms. Yummy.

Enjoy your new hobby!

It really depends on how big the vase is. If it's a 1 gallon and you wanna get some tankmates i'd strive for the 5 gallon tank. But if it's just the betta you want, i'd just keep him in the vase. Betta's do good in small quarters anyway so it wouldn't matter.

IMO, it's not a great idea to keep one in a vase, unless it's at least 2 or 3 gallons (most vases aren't). Bettas like warm water and no matter what they tell you, they WON' T live on plant roots. They are insect-eating fish, so they do need to be fed flakes or bloodworms or betta-specific pellets.

In my experience, a betta seldom lives very long in a vase.

BTW, welcome to AC and fishkeeping!

Good luck!
