Betta with tiny holes in fins

I know this thread is a few days old but i thought i post an update for those who helped/ replied and maybe were interested in reading about this particular problem (or someone who might find this thread through forum/ internet search with a similar problem in the future).

For a few days after my last post things looked pretty grim. My betta went downhill and we were really worried. The area around the holes looked greyish and his overall apperance was drab. He didnt swim much, hung out in the back of the tank a lot and clamped his fins (and his eyes looked a bit cloudy too). His appetite was however unchanged and he still begged for food. I am not sure when it was but i think around the 30th we expected to find him passed on the next morning.
Luckily the opposite happened. We got up and he was swimming around more and looked a lot better.

What i did was 2x 50% waterchange the day of my post - and then another 50% every day - and every 2 days a second 50%.
I added some Melafix, 1tsp salt/ gallon (slowly) and after about 5 days also some PimaFix (and always replaced what the WC took out).

He still got some holes in his fins - but some seem to disappear while a few more appeared in other spots. Maybe he is going through some kind of phase - i have no idea. Aslong as he is active, swimming, flaring and fighting then who cares about a few holes - aslong as he'll stay healthy.

I have of course no idea what really happened. Parameters were as good as in my first post. No ammonia, nitrite etc.. With them present i would've accepted i had a stress induced case of fin rot/ infection - but as i said... i was/ am really into making sure the tank is clean and in good condition.

So there is still some lingering worry that there might be something i am doing wrong. After all i thought 50% water change a week on an established+ planted 10G tank with just one fish would be enough.

So for anyone who "cared" i thought i just post this little follow up. Hope he'll stay healthy from now on.....

Of course we care! Frankly, I was just going to post and ask how he was doing.

Jakers had a small hole, but that healed up. Like you, I did a few 50% water changes in a row.

Since I was changing out Jakers' water, I changed out the 36g twice within a few days. I've been finding that my fish in the 36g seem to be WAY more colorful with more frequent water changes. Much more active, too. The colors on my Boesemani are amazing.

Fresh water is always good, but I'm starting to wonder if the 1 x 50% change a week is adequate. If they are so noticeabley improved in health, mabye it would be prudent to adopt a more frequent water change routine.

Hrm, maybe I'll start a new thread and ask.
