I got my betta a few days ago and he won't eat. I tried freeze dried bloodworms, flakes, shrimp pellets and he hasn't touched any of it. Should I leave him outside and maybe he'll get a few mosquitoes or try some worms in the backyard?

Most bettas will accept the small betta pellet food. Have you been changing his water? They will get stressed with poor water quality. Do you have a heater in the tank? If they are cold that could also effect the appetite.

Whatever you do, I would not leave the betta outside!

Crap I got him in a big plastic flower pot with hornwort and java moss plants. I'll try the beta bits later I guess.

Try some cooked, skined, crushed peas too. My betta loves them.

It sometimes takes bettas a few days to get used to their new home and new water parameters. If they have been fed frozen or live food previously it may take a little time for them to recognize pellet or freeze dried worms as food.

Continue to be consistent with what you are feeding him and he will likely take to it. Just don't leave the food uneaten in the water for long periods. It will quickly begin to break down and cause water quality issues.

I just got a new betta too, and for the life of him, he looks at the pellets like they were from a different planet. He'd much rather have the flakes. Maybe whatever you're feeding him, he just doesn't like.

Yeah, my new betta doesn't seem to eat his pellets, he eats them and then spits it out. However, this is what they feed him in the LFS that i got. He does seem to be going for the flakes that i feed my harlequin rasboras with. And, some of my harlequin rasboras are trying to eat the pellets, which are way too big for them. Since they are all still new, i'm still trying to figure out a way so that they each eat their own food!

Is anyone else keeping bettas and rasboras together? I have them in an eclipse 12 and my rasboras love to play in the water outtake and my betta seems to enjoy having the stream of water from the outtake propel him across the tank. They seem to be ok with each other. I introduced my betta into the tank by keeping him in one of those breeder nets that hangs on the side of the tank for about a day before i released him into the water with the rasboras. I think the rasboras are afraid of coming up to the surface for flakes now that the betta has plopped himself up there. Maybe they'll get used to him soon...

Mine gets excited when I throw freeze dried bloodworms in. Keep trying, he'll get hungry sooner or later.
