Bettafix and an Ich treatment?

I am new here--and returning to the world of aquariums after about 10 years. I could really use some help!

I have a male betta and an angel in an 5 gal tank. I think my betta had a rough time with the new tank setup and started loosing scales and looking sickly. I started Bettafix on Tues (Nov 7) and he is looking much better. Unfortunately, I think he has ich now . . . I battled this with him about a month ago and thought it was gone.

Now--there is about 3 days treatment of the Bettafix in the tank. Can I treat him for ich too or should I do a partial water change first? Also, will all this hurt the angel? His appetite seems to have diminished--I am hoping I am not killing him while trying to save my betta!!!

Help! Any advice is appreciated--I am so new to all this!

Thanks!

did you cycle the tank?
how long has the betta and angel been in the tank?
you NEED to get rid of the angel,it will get WAY too big, plus the betta is enough of a bioload for that little tank.

first, you need to get rid of the angel or get a much bigger tank as DD suggested. they simply wont do well in a 5 gallon. believe me, i know what happens when an angel is stuffed into a 5 gallon tank.
bettafix wont do anything good for the angel, so that is another reason to move then angel or get rid of it all together.
when was the last water change?
what type of filtration do you have on the tank, and what filter?

Oh I feel terrible!! And mad--I asked the guy at the petstore and he assured me that it would be okay!

people at pet stores will give you ALOT of wrong info just to get $$.
get rid of the angel or get it a 20-30 gal tank :)
what kind of filter do you have?

if i believed everything my LFS said, i would have a whole bunch of tiger barbs with four kissing gouramis, and then maybe a school of 12 angels to top it off.... the people at most fish stores like Petsmart, etc. have been totally brainwashed into believing lies, like every species of fish and its subspecies needs aquarium salt, and the "inch gallon" rule is ALWAYS correct.
so dont believe them please... its best to ask here for stocking if you need to.

right, as everyone says, the new hobbyists have a difficult dive into the hobby at times when they get their advice from the wrong Pet Shop, beit it Petsmart or their LFS. Not saying all LFS are bad with their info, just that it's difficult for a new aquaholic to recognize the good advice from the sale advice. Your best bet is to check in here every so often. Your best move was to come here in the first place, welcome to the boards ;) we look forward to helping you through the beginning of your aquatic journey ;)

As for the betta and ich. Do a search for salt treatment of ich. That could easily be combined with betta fix medication.
